DESCRIPTION

The Social Institute is an edtech startup that aims to teach students, teachers, and parents how to navigate social media positively. As a content development and marketing intern, I was in charge of improving curriculum content and social media strategies. I chose to pursue this experience as it combined my interests in media and technology and made a difference by educating students on how to navigate the ever-changing landscape of social media safely.

Experience TWO

The Social Institute

As a startup is fast-paced, I often had to come up with innovative ways to optimize our workflow to meet quick deadlines. For example, I was once tasked with managing a project where me and the other interns had to make informational rundowns of over 30 social media apps within quick deadlines. I was in charge of proofreading and editing all of the rundowns created by the other interns and uploading them onto the Wordpress site. Using my forward-thinking skills, I had to come up with a solution to make sure our work process was as efficient as possible, so I decided to create brand guidelines and rundown templates so that our work was as consistent as possible in order to save time in the editing process. I was able to successfully overcome the obstacle of completing a large amount of work within pressing deadlines by thinking ahead and ensuring that my team was working as efficiently as possible along the way.

There was also a time that I was not able to meet a quick deadline, which is what motivated me to be a forward thinker for the rundown project.

The most important lesson I learned from working at The Social Institute is that passion is one of the greatest motivators. As a startup, there are naturally not as much access to resources than other larger companies. But through the power of passion, I saw how the team was able to navigate any complex situation as they were determined to successfully work through anything.
